These pictures were taken at the Austin Regional Science Fair help on February 25 and 27 at the Palmer Event center. As you read the article from the Austin American-Statesman notice the schools that are mentioned: Vista Ridge, Bowie, Harmony Science Academy, and Anderson. There were many more participating schools that were not mentioned. Also note the school that does not participate, namely Lake Travis High School and all the other schools in the Lake Travis Independent School District. I was a senior judge at the event and must say that it was a very energetic and inspiring event. If you look closely, you will see me scratching my head while interviewing Nathan Timmerman, the student in the big picture.

As you read this, if you are the parent of a student in middle or high school that has an interest in science, you should make a lot of noise to the LTISD and demand that they create an optional science fair program for the students here. Not all students are cut out to be engineers an scientists but for those who are, they should have the opportunity to participate in events of this type just as athletes participate in football, musicians participate in band, and singers and dancers participate in cheerleading and drama programs.
